This will be a real interesting recruiting class, for a lot of reasons.

RE: Highly regarded 09 FB prospects considering NIU
The sky is the limit. I'm a little worried about Northwestern this year. They seem to be rallying a bunch of guys to go to school there under young head coach Pat Fitzgerald. They could have a strong coup, if Jerry Kill and PJ Fleck can't convince them otherwise. It's good that we have PJ there in the recruiting role, because he relates well with these young kids. And of course now NW has the best AD in the state as well:
Energized Fitzgerald makes headway at Northwestern (Sun-Times Recruiting)
Wheaton North RB Mike Trumpy ties AJ Harris' record:
Quote:Trumpy’s stock is rising rapidly. He recently ran the 55-meter high hurdles in 7.4 seconds at the Proviso West Relays, tying a meet record held by Olympian Greg Foster and A.J. Harris. He has indicated he is leaning to Northwestern but Stanford also has offered a scholarship, and he is considering Notre Dame, Indiana, Purdue, Michigan State and Northern Illinois.

Agreed the sky is the limit.
The thing I want to see is the Illinois player ratio in this, Kill's first full class. Is he going to really concentrate in IL and compete for some guys, or try to steal more kids from the south.

He's probably looking at life as a DE. That 5.0 40 isn't helping his case in the MAC...with all the spreads we face.
Yep that is a tad slow, but at his height (6-4) he should have the ability to knock down passes and mess up the opposing QB's throwing lanes.

Actually Meador is from just south of Indy. He doesn't have BSU in his top 5, always helps to get some talent out of the state of a division rival; other MAC programs have pulled more than enough out of IL.

Rock enjoys spring visits
By Jeremy Crabtree, Recruiting Editor
April 15, 2008
Quote:So much for a break on spring break.
Minneapolis (Minn.) Wayzata athlete Fritz Rock and family decided instead of spending time hanging out at home or taking a vacation, he would use his spring break to tour some of the top colleges on his list. The tour hit nine schools and drew two new scholarship offers for the 6-foot-1, 196-pounder.
“I visited Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, Indiana, Purdue, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Michigan State and Northern Illinois,” Rock said. “I got two new offers from Cincinnati and Northern Illinois, so I guess our tour really worked to my advantage. I’m now at four offers to go along with the offers from Indiana and Minnesota.”

Huskies looking at Arrowhead, WI kicker Jeff Budzien (5-11, 151)
Highly ranked on the national level thanks to standout performances at kicking camps, Budzien is listed as a 4.5-star recruit (out of a possible 5-stars) by Chris Sailer and Jamie Kohl, both nationally known kicking experts. Sailer ranks Budzien as the No. 15 kicker in the nation.

MN WR w/good size(6-3 225) and production; also high on NIU
http://minnesotapreps.rivals.com/viewpro..._key=79596
Kill can use Rengel as an Hback, TE or just a large WR like the Illini use Cumberland(sorry for the analogy, it was the only one I could think of).
His speed will make him a tough cover for LB's and his size make's him tough for S/DB's. Having a 225LB HBack/WR to pancake S/DB's on sweeps and edge plays will help the run game.

He is SCHEDULED to visit DeKalb 5/13! LSU, So FLA and Arizonia St are in mix none have offered or provided a visit.
Couple things.....THIS STAFF IS AGGRESSIVE!. WOW! It also may indicate they are not sure Dave K will be returning (speculation) he did sit out spring ball. I hope he is okay, we need as many good football players as we can get.
PS.. he is elgible to transfer and play RIGHT NOW!

Yeah that is interesting. If he wants to he can come to NIU this summer and play for us this coming year. Or he can go back to Juco and let that play out.
I think if he wants to play D1 ball right now we are his best shot. If he thinks he can run up to a BCS scholarship he will wait.
And I totally agree about this staff, they do seem very aggressive.

DITTO- THIS STAFF IS AGGRESSIVE. NIU is going after the most sort after( 10 offers already) DE/LB Class 2009 in MN( Eastview's Matt Garin #49), who is a very close friend of Dan Edem, Class 2008 NIU TE recruit:
http://WWW.Eastviewfootball.com
Although 7 schools are listed, Darin just added 3 more offers within this week. Don't count NIU out even though we are going against Stanford,Colorado, WVU, Arizona State..etc. Will watch this offer closely.

NORMAN, Okla. -- Third-string quarterback Keith Nichol plans to transfer from Oklahoma after just one season.
"We had a good conversation with Keith and certainly understand his desire to seek an opportunity in another program," Sooners coach Bob Stoops said in a statement Friday. "He knows that we are supportive of him under any circumstance, whether it's here or at a different school. We want what's best for him."
Nichol initially committed to Michigan State, but then enrolled at Oklahoma last January to get an early jump on the quarterback competition. Sam Bradford eventually won the starting job and became the nation's top-rated passer last season.
Joey Halzle, a senior-to-be, was the Sooners' backup and replaced Bradford after he sustained a concussion in the first quarter of a loss at Texas Tech last season.
Nichol played in three games last season, completing two of seven passes for 15 yards. He still has three years of eligibility remaining and has not used his redshirt season. He said "it's wide open" where he will transfer."
Interesting, he seems like he would be a great fit for the new offense. I have to believe this guy will end up in the Big 11. Michigan and Indiana come to mind in terms of QB opportunities but he could certainly do worse than THE U of NI. Hey, Demetrius Jones almost happened, who's to say?

Wow, looking at a player from South Carolina. That's not something you see every day at NIU.
Today was the day the tight end Cameron Graham was supposedly visiting. Anyone know how it went?

He's likely talented but I don't like short CB's. Everyone is looking for that 6-3/6-5 WR and short CB's will have an increasingly tough time covering them as teams continue to pass more than run the ball.

I don't really disagree (I like bigger corners), but if he grows another inch he's 5-11 and a kid that size can play CB in 1A football. It's when you start getting the 5-8 and 5-9 kids that I think it's a bigger problem. I don't think I'd really call a 5-10 DB short, he's just not a big CB.
Most teams also don't usually have more than 1, maybe 2, truly big receivers (6-3+) that play and are threats, so as long as you've got 1 or 2 CBs that are 6-0+ you're usually fine. So many of the big WRs are really more TE's who don't always have the quickness to get open or reliable hands. The ones that do are at the big programs.
FWIW, the first cornerback taken in the 2008 draft was 5'11 (McKelvin).

Football is a game of SPEED & SIZE....nothing new there....There are very few cornerbacks over 6'0 tall. First requirement of CB is the ability to run & turn.."flip those hips" ...

It looks like both those guys you listed would fit in as LBs. They don't have any offers, do you know what they are going to end up doing?
Did they use both their juco years?

1) No offers as of now, which is surprising considering Butler was undefeated last year and won the NJCAA National Title.
2) Woodall could play S if needed, 4.51 is pretty decent speed, Schneider's best position is outside.
3) As of now they've played 1 year at Butler, they were full qualifiers out of HS. If Kill has scholies available(if any players have left the program) they can play immediately. If not they will have 3 years to play 2 if they play this fall at Butler.
