And, many have been speculating much the same thing for some time now, while we all await impatiently for definitive news.

Remember (god forbid) the Andre Allen story? I seem to remember I heard it here first, and I think it was CyberTiger. He caught some hell and ridicule for that one too, but it turned out he was right.

Obviously he has SOME connection on the inside, he probably just doesn't want to jeopardize that connection by dropping names. Can't blame him.

So, I'll need proof too before I "take it to the bank," but I'm glad he shared what he's heard anyhow.

The part that confuses me the most is why Cal would redshirt Simpkins even if he was cleared to play. We need some depth on the frontlie and MAtt sounds like a pretty good talent.

Plus rumors of Simpkins redshirting for next year can't help in the recruiting of Robinson

After reading Matt's comments the other day, I think he may be
resigned to a red shirt year already.

From what I've heard, this assessment is spot on regarding Garcia making it and Simpkins not. As for the redshirting of Simpkins, I haven't heard that one but will take Cyber's word on it as he has been on target with most things he reports to us.

I met Angel Garcia last night while at Half Shell - He was there with one of the Memphis Managers and Geeorge Kline (Elvis's old running buddy). First may I say, He is extremely tall (he towered me and I stand about 6'1) but skinny. When shaking his hand I couldn't help but notice his abnormally long hands. Anyways, I asked when he thought we would hear back from the clearinghouse and he responded by saying that the whole situation has been a circus but assured me he would be dressed out on the court for the first game. Also noted that he loved Memphis thus far mainly due to the warmer weather compared to Chicago. Much like the waiting game in recruiting news it seems like it is only a matter of time but all sources appear confident that Garcia will be cleared.

I didn't realize the paper stated Simpkins would probably be redshirted even if he passed the clearinghouse. Do you get a different version of the CA in Canada?

And if Pierre doesn't get to 280, Cal may not give him a jersey...it seems that's a legit threat and weight target.

Sitting at 300 right now...however, I would think if he's adding muscle and he has his quickness, 280+ could work. My guess is, as long as he's showing the determination and he can handle the off and def schemes, he should get PT...especially if Simpkins doesn't make it.

I understand that's common... a "weight-loss plateau" I've heard it called. After awhile he might be able to start losing fast again.

He's got only about what, 5-6 weeks left? 3-5 lbs a week if he started losing again now. That could be do-able but is still a tall order.

I'm sure the trainers are doing what they need to do. Is P? He's certainly done well so far! I hope the slowdown hasn't discouraged him.

Yes, anyone who has tried to lose weight (myself included) has experienced the dreaded and discouraging plateau. Pierre will need to work through it. Eventually, the weight will drop if he keeps watching what he eats and exercises vigorously. He can do it!

Garcia will be eligible and Simpkins will be redshirting... I guess he was declined by the clearinghouse but we sure could use his depth on the front line.

i keep seeing Garcia Simpkins and thinking he is one player.

A source tells me that Garcia is good to go but that they had decided to red shirt Simpkins. I must admit though that he also said they felt confident that Robinson was going to sign (this was after that weekend he visited) with the Tigers and we all know that didn't work out. In his defense - he followed all that up with the comment that you never know considering we are talking about young adults.

AFAIK the paperwork was sent in months ago. They are just waiting for it to come back. Practice starts on Friday. I don't think that they would have waited until a couple of days before practice starts to send in their paperwork.

There is a possibility that some of the paperwork was returned for further evidence or clarification. The Clearinghouse (or whatever the heck it's called) can do this multiple times in some cases. So, it is possible that they submitted it on the original deadline but also resubmitted it again recently.
